Making Friends A person cannot live alone in the society because there are many different kinds of work to do and this requires(需要) cooperation(合作,协作). Man’s life depends upon each man pooling(分享) his individual(个人的) ability(才能) with others. Our society has become more and more complicated(复杂的).No matter where we live and work, we cannot stand aloof(远离) from the people around us. Sometimes we might need their help. Of course,we will also lend them a hand whenever one is needed.
Our lives established(建立) upon a relationship(联系) of mutual(相互的) help. This means that we should be friendly with each other. When you have many friends, you will find that they can not only give you the aid(帮助) you need but also make you feel the pleasure of living. They may be your good teachers who teach you many things about life and the world. They may help you solve(解决) many problems. You may also enjoy out with them and doing things together with them. Also you will find life worth living.

      Traveling on Foot

There are many ways of traveling, but I find more agreeable(令人愉快的) than going on foot. I can set out when I like and stop when I like. If I feel tired, I sit down and admire peacefully the scenery(景色) around me. If I see a beautiful stream, I turn aside to walk along its banks. Sometimes, I rest in the shade of a thick wood; at other times I stop to examine the minerals(矿石) of an old quarry(采石场).As for horses or carriages, I have no need for them, for they cannot take me by the roads I follow. I go where I like, enjoying delightful spots (娱乐场所) rarely (难得) visited by other travelers.

      Beautiful Scenery

The river ran smoothly and shallowly at our feet, and beyond it a wide sandy beach sloped(倾斜) upward gently(渐渐地) to the edge of the forest, against which the rocks shone as white as weathered(风化的) bones. The red soil bank on our side of the river, the silver sheet of water in front of us, the wet browns and greys of the sandbars(沙洲), the white washed hill of rocks on the opposite shore(滨岸), and the green forest front were like stripes(条纹)of water colors.
