    　　1. In a village there was a man who wanted to buy a pair of new shoes. He measured his feet with a ruler, and then he used a straw to make a size. 村子里有个人想买一双新鞋｡他先用尺子量好了脚的大小,然后用根稻草做成尺码｡
    　　
    　　2. He got to a shoe shop in the market. He felt his pocket and cried, “Ah, I left my size at home. I had to go home at once to fetch it.” 他来到市场上的一家鞋店,一摸口袋,便叫了起来:“哎呀,我忘记带尺码了,我得马上回家去拿｡”
    　　
    　　3. The shoe shop was far away from his home. After a long-distance walk, he was panting with tiredness. When he hurried back to the market, it had already got dark. The shoe shop was closed. 鞋店离他家很远,他走呀走,累得气喘吁吁｡等他赶回市场,天色已晚,鞋店已经关门了｡
    　　
    　　4. After making a fruitless trip without buying shoes, he went home dejectedly. At this time one of the villagers asked him, “Did you buy shoes for yourself or for another man?” 他白跑了一趟,没买着鞋,便垂头丧气地往家走｡这时,村子里有人问他:“你是给自己买鞋子,还是为别人买?”
    　　
    　　5. He pointed at his feet and said, “Haven’t you seen my shoes worn out? Just for myself!” Hearing this, all the people in his village felt puzzled. 他指着自己的脚说道:“你没看到我的鞋已经破了吗?我当然是为自己买鞋了｡”这时,村子里的人都觉得很奇怪｡
    　　
    　　6. One of them said, “Don’t you have your own feet? Why did you go home to take your size?” The man answered, “The size is more exact than my own feet.” 他们中有一个人问道:“你自己身上不是有脚吗?又何必再回来拿尺码呢?”那人回答说:“还是尺码更准确呀｡”
