Part 1 Neil: This is Real English from Learning English. I’m Neil. Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that have recently become part of the English language. New words enter the English language all the time. Today’s new expression is “the school run.”
      Helen: The school run.
Neil: The school run is when mothers drive their children to school in the morning, and collect them again in the evening. Well, many people complain about the school run, because it means there is a lot of extra traffic on the roads when they are trying to drive to work.

      Dialogue Excerpts:(对话摘录)
      A: You’re early. You don’t normally arrive till 9:30!
B: I know, but it’s school holidays so I avoided the school run traffic, and it took me much less time than normal.

Neil: The school run is a problem if you live near a school. Yeah, it can be difficult to park your car, or it will take you longer in the morning to get to work.
      Helen: That’s a problem.
Neil: Yes, Helen. I wish the kids and their parents all took a bus or walked. Well, it’s time to go. You’ve been listening to Real English from Learning English. Join us again soon for more up-to-the-minute Real English. Bye.

      Part 2

Helen: Hello, welcome to Real English from Learning English. I’m Helen.
Today we’re going to look at words and phrases that you might not find in your dictionary. Today we are going to talk about being a “teacher’s pet.”It’s an expression we often hear in schools, especially among students.
      Oliver: A teacher’s pet.
Helen: The definition of a teacher’s pet usually refers to a student who is popular with the teachers, and probably not so popular with fellow[同伴] students. And it’s not a particularly nice phrase to say to someone. It has a negative meaning.

      Dialogue Excerpts:(对话摘录)
A: How did you do in your essay?
B: I got an okay grade, but Mrs Jones gave Sarah Evans top marks though.
A: I’m not surprised. She’s a teacher’s pet, you know. They always give her good marks.

Oliver: Helen, did anyone ever call you a teacher’s pet?
Helen: Once or twice. I was quite good at maths.
Oliver: And how did you react?
Helen: I just ignored[忽视] their comments. I think my classmates were just jealous[妒嫉的] of my results. You’ve been listening to Real English from Learning English. Join us next time.
