A Mr Jones had a few days’ holidays, so he decided to visit the mountains by train. During the trip he often put his head out of the window and looked at the mountains. Soon the wind blew his beautiful hat off.
Mr Jones quickly took his old bag and threw that out of the window, too. The other people on the train laughed. They asked if his bag would bring his beautiful hat back.
Mr Jones smiled. He told them there was no name and no address in his hat, but there was his name and address on the bag. “If someone finds both,”he continued, “he can send me the bag and the hat easily.”

Once there was a gentleman travelled in Italy. But he didn’t know much Italian. One day, he decided to have lunch in a restaurant. He had seen some nice mushrooms in the village the day before. He thought they would taste very good, so when a waiter came to him, he decided to ask whether he could have some mushrooms for his meal. Suddenly he remembered that he did not know the Italian word for mushrooms. So he took out a pencil and drew a picture of a mushroom. The waiter hesitated(迟疑)for a while and went to the kitchen. A minute later he returned with an umbrella.

Mr Smith is strict with his workers and always proud of their diligent(勤奋的)work. However, one day he visited his factory and was shocked to see a man leaning(靠) against a wall, drinking coffee leisurely(悠闲)in the working time. Mr Smith was very angry and asked the man, “How much do you make(挣钱)?”“Eight dollars a day,”the man replied. Then Mr Smith gave him eighty dollars and said, “Get out and never come back again. My factory won’t need a worker like you.”The man went away without a word. Five minutes later, the foreman(工头)came in and asked, “Where is the delivery man (送货的人)who was here just now?”

One day Newton invited an old friend to have a dinner with him. No sooner had they taken their seats than Newton had an idea about his experiment.
“Wait a minute. I will soon be back,”he said to his friend. He went to the laboratory and began doing his experiment. Soon he forgot the dinner. The guest kept waiting for a long time. Feeling hungry, he ate up the food and then left.
Several hours later, Newton finished his experiment. He went to the dining room for the meal. When he saw the bones in the plate, he said to himself,“I have already had my meal.”He then returned to the laboratory and went on with another experiment.

One afternoon, three young men got to the railway station. It seemed that they came early, so they began to talk excitedly.
Half an hour later, the train came in, but they didn’t notice and continued talking. When the train was starting, they looked up, took their bags and ran to the train. Two of them got on with bags, but the other one didn’t. As the train went away, he looked very worried. Seeing this, a worker at the station spoke to him, “It’s all right. There will be another train this evening. You can soon join your friends.”
The young man still looked unhappy, he answered,“The trouble is that the two just came to see me off.”
