A Mr and Mrs Jonson seldom go out in the evening, but last Saturday, Mrs Jonson said to her husband, “There will be a good film at the cinema tonight. Can we go and see it?”
Mr Jonson was quite happy about it, so they went, and both of them enjoyed the film very much.
They came out of the cinema at eleven o"clock, got into their car and began driving home. It was quite dark. Suddenly Mrs Jonson said,“Look, Bill. A woman is running along the road very fast, and a man is running after her. Maybe she is in great danger. Can you see them?”
Mr Jonson said, “Yes, I can.”He drove the car slowly near the woman and said to her,“Can we help you?”
“No, thank you,”the woman said, but she didn"t stop running. “My husband and I always run home after the cinema, and the last one washes the dishes at home!”

A good-looking gentleman sat down in the main dining room of an expensive hotel. He ordered a big meal and spent two hours enjoying himself very much. After the check was presented, the gentleman called the head waiter.
“Ah, my friend,”he said,“that was a wonderful meal! Perhaps you remember that I was a guest at this hotel and at this very same table just about a year ago. And at that time, just because I couldn"t pay the check, you, sir, had me thrown out of this dining room in full view(视线)of all the other guests!”
“My deepest apologizes, sir,”said the head waiter.“You understand...”
“Oh, it"s quite all right!”said the gentleman, lighting the cigar(雪茄烟), “But I"m afraid I"ll have to trouble you again.”

Mr and Mrs Bell are very forgetful. For example, Mr Bell sometimes goes to his office for work on Sunday morning, for he thinks it is Monday. And Mrs Bell sometimes forgets to cook supper for the family.
One summer they planned to fly to New York for their holidays. They got to the airport only ten minutes before the plane took off. So time was short. But suddenly Mrs Bell said she must tell Alice, their daughter, not to forget to lock the front door when she went to school. As Alice was then at school, they couldn"t tell her about it by telephone. So they hurried to the post office. Mrs Bell wrote a short note to Alice while Mr Bell bought a stamp and an envelope. Soon the note was ready. They put the stamp on the envelope in a hurry and dropped it in the letter box, but suddenly Mrs Bell began to cry. The short note was still in her hand. She had put the plane tickets in the envelope.

One evening Mrs Evans asked her husband to take her to a very expensive restaurand in the city because a lot of film stars and other famous people ate there, and she was curious(渴望的)to see some of them.
Soon after they had ordered their meal, a pair of very attractive(引人注目的)man and woman came into the hall and sat down at a table nearby. They were wearing beautiful clothes, and Mrs Evans said to her husband, “Look at those people, Mike! I"m sure I"ve seen their pictures in a magazine.”
The man and woman gave their order to the waiter, and when he brought Mr and Mrs Evans their drink, Mrs Evans said to him, “Who are those people? Do you know them?”
“Oh, they"re nobody famous,”he answered at once.
“Really?”Mrs Evans asked in surprise.“How do you know that?”

There are some people who just can"t make up their minds by themselves. They often ask the advice of their friends but they never do what their friends have said.
My friend Jack is such a person. He can never decide what he will do, and he is always asking my opinion. I try to help him as well as I can, but he never takes my advice. Yesterday I answered his question in a different way.
“Look,”he said, showing me a letter.“What do you think I should do?”The letter was an offer(提供)of a job. It seemed to be a good chance for a young artist. Jack would be sent to Australia to work. The job would pay very well, and he would be able to travel and visit many interesting places.
“What do you think, Rose?”he asked.“Shall I go? If I accept the job, I"ll have to stay in Australia for two years. I may have to stay longer. But it will be wonderful experience for me. What should I do Rose?”
      “Don"t go,”I told him. “You"d suffer a lot there.”
“Don"t go?”he looked at my answer in great surprise.
As you"ve probably guessed, Jack accepted the offer. I don"t know if he found that I really wanted him to take the job.
