Returning business calls as soon as you can is important for successful business relationships. People generally return calls the same day. Otherwise, they call back within 24 hours.
      "Frozen" telephone language
Although business people are often quite informal in face-to-face interactions with people they know, they usually use more formal, polite language on the telephone. This is especially true when you talk to people who help you, such as receptionists, hotel clerks, and travel agents. People use formulaic expressions or set phrases that are "frozen" or never change (for example, "May I help you?" / "I"d like to speak to..." / "Could you spell that for me?" / "One moment. Please hold on.").
