Nicole: Kyle…(finds Kyle leaving) What are you doing?
      Kyle: Nicole, I
Nicole: I came in here to ask your permission to tell Stephen about the secret we’ve been keeping from the family, only to find you sneaking[偷偷溜走] out of the house?
Kyle: I’m going to find Jessi. I wanted to tell you, but
Nicole: But you knew that I wouldn’t let you go.
      Kyle: This is important.
Nicole: More important than our trust in you?
Kyle: I’m doing this for all of you. I can fix this. I can fix everything that’s broken.
Nicole: Why Jessi? Why you? How are you two connected?
Kyle: You already know the answer to that question. She and I are the same.
Nicole: What is that supposed to mean? I don’t even know who you are!
Kyle: You told me once that I never brought anything but love into this house. But all I ever brought was pain. I need to make this right. Please. I have to go.

      Only to
      Only to do sth
Eg. I arrived at the shop only to find I’d left all my money at home.(我到商店却发现钱全落在家了。)

Nicole: We can’t call the police, not yet.
Stephen: Well, we can’t just sit here. Our former security guard is locked up at Madacorp by Kyle’s parents’ lawyer!
Nicole: Obviously, something is very wrong.
      Stephen: (sneers) That’s an understatement.
Nicole: Look, I know you’re upset, but let’s try to make sense of things first. Let Kyle find Jessi.
Stephen: What does that have to do with it?
Nicole: Everything is connected somehow. Hopefully, Kyle can explain.
Stephen: But will he? He’s been hiding things, and
you’ve been helping him. You knew that he rescued a girl from a fire without getting so much as a blister[水泡]? And it took you how many months to mention it to me?
Nicole: He was afraid they would take him away! I promised I wouldn’t tell anyone.
Stephen: Well, I’m not “anyone.” I’m your husband.
      (Meanwhile, in Lori’s room)
Josh: (comes in) There’s trouble in paradise.
      Lori: Go away.
Josh: I’m serious. I heard Mom and Dad fighting about something, and I haven’t done anything lately, so what’s it about?
Lori: I don’t know. They didn’t send me a memo.
Josh: We need Kyle to tune in[收听] and do a little recon注1 for us, but I can’t find him anywhere.
Lori: Well, he has to be here. Mom has us on lockdown注2.
Josh: Unless he’s added invisibility[隐身] to his bag of tricks, he’s not home.
Declan: Uh…maybe he went to Amanda’s.
Lori: Uh…maybe you know where he went. (Suddenly realizes) He went after her, didn’t he?
      Josh: Went after who?
Lori: She Who Shall Not Be Named注3! (To Declan) How could he do that? How can you cover for[包庇] him?
Declan: What happened to your “cooler head”?
Lori: She’s a horrible, toxic[恶毒的] person who attacked me!
Declan: He’s not excusing her for what she did. He just wants to bring her home.
Lori: Why? Why does he have to be all nice and sympathetic[有同情心的], going all “Kyle” on her when she doesn’t deserve it?
Declan: You know Kyle. He sees something in her, and his instincts[直觉] about people are always right. We should give him the benefit of the doubt[往好处想].

      That’s an understatement.
Eg. To say that he was displeased is an understatement.(说他不高兴太轻描淡写了。)

      Stephen: Ah, got it!
Josh: (opens the door) Ahem. One prays for moments like this. Who’d like to go first?
Stephen: You’re going to give us a free pass on this one.
Josh: Oh, I think not. What do you want with my Kyle File?
Nicole: We just need to borrow it for a while.
Lori: Why? Enough with the looks. Why are you
      skulking[偷偷摸摸] around?
Josh: Yeah. Skulking’s my job. Don’t mess with the balance of nature.
Lori: Seriously, if there’s something going on with Kyle, I want to know.
Stephen: Well, the truth is…the situation does concern all of us.
      Josh: There’s a...situation?
Stephen: All right, we’ll tell you what we know. (To Nicole) No more secrets?
      Nicole: No more secrets.
      (The Tragers gather to discuss.)
Stephen: (Turns the pages) He didn’t sleep for over a week. He jumped off our roof. He predicted lightning, and earthquake. There are pages of this. And don’t
forget, he drew a picture of my father’s living room perfectly, even though he’d never been there. No one should be able to do any of these things, and yet Kyle has done all of them.
Josh: Because he’s incredible! He’s amazing! And you’re acting like he’s done something wrong, like he’s some sort of freak[
Nicole: We’re just trying to make sense of what’s
      happened.
Josh: Well, don’t put him on trial[使人受审] before he gets home! Give him a chance to explain! That’s what you do for me and Lori when you think we screwed
      up[搞砸了]!
Lori: Seriously, Josh, when you hear all this stuff
together, it sounds so wild and weird[怪异的].
Stephen: And when you think about it, what do we
      really know about Kyle?
Lori: I know. Who is he?
Josh: What are you talking about? (To Lori) He’s our brother! (To his parents)
He’s your son! And now...I’m not doing this anymore!

      There’s a situation.
Eg. There’s a situation here! He lost the file!(出状况了!

Tom: I’m sure that you have questions, but Kyle should answer them.
Stephen: No, no. You tell me now. Last time I saw you, Brian Taylor had you locked up in a room at Madacorp. Why?
      Tom: We had a disagreement.
Stephen: What the hell kind of answer is that?
Tom: Look, all I can tell you is Kyle’s done nothing wrong.
Nicole: Look, you were our security guard, but Declan said that you looked out for Kyle from the beginning. What did he mean?
Tom: That means...I’ve known him since he was a child. He’s been through a lot. And he’s very special, but you already know that.
Stephen: Do you know where he is?
Tom: I think so. He’s asked me to stay around to look after your family. All he’s…ever wanted was to be a part of your family. To Kyle, this is home.
Stephen: Well, I can take care of my family. It’s time for you to go. And bring our son home.

      He’s been through a lot.
Eg. With such a weak heart, she was lucky to come through.

(He Must Not Be named)引申而来。
