　　 　　Whoops-a-Daisy! 　　 　　Despite the multi-million dollar budgets and state-of-the-art technology, Hollywood blockbusters are in no way immune to goofs. In the past, when films were primarily enjoyed on the silver screen, audiences may have noticed obvious errors in the production but only the most picky movie buff could detect the minute flaws that seem to lurk beneath the surface of almost every picture. Today, with the advent of home entertainment systems and slo-mo, just about anybody can pick out cinema screw-ups. In fact, there are reams of books and websites devoted to the topic. Some of the observations of the flaw-finders are truly hilarious while others are nothing more than nit-picking. Hollywood doesn"t appear to be too worried. Some mistakes are corrected by studios by the time the movie comes to DVD but, more than often, movie bloopers are too expensive or difficult to rectify and remain a part of the final product. Movie mistakes are no indication of the quality of a film. Goofs can be found in classic films, like Psycho and Star Wars, to mention but a few. 　　Loosely based on The Illiad, this 2004 blockbuster is choc-a-bloc with goofs. In one particular morning scene, the sun is shown rising over the sea. However, the sea is situated to the west of Troy. In the world of cinema, the sun can even rise in the west! The most common type of mistake in Troy, however, is crew members or equipment being visible on-screen. Watch closely and you will see that, as Achilles" ship nears the Trojan shores, Agamemnon snidely asks, "What"s the fool doing? He"s going to take the beach of Troy with fifty men?" At the start of the next shot, as the camera begins to pan down, on the far right, a metal bullhorn (of the same type used to give instructions to the cast and crew) is clearly visible. In another scene, as a Myrmidon soldier is hit by an arrow, his black curly wig falls off revealing short brown hair underneath.

　　James Cameroon"s 1997 hit, Titanic, is awash with inconsistencies. Despite the director"s alleged obsession with getting the facts right, many of the mistakes are factual errors. For instance, the lake that Jack told Rose he went ice fishing on, when she was threatening to jump, is Lake Wissota, a man-made lake in Wisconsin near Chippewa Falls (where Jack grew up). The lake was only filled with water in 1918 when a power company built a dam on the Chippewa River, six years after the Titanic sank. In another scene, Rose is arriving in New York and she looks at the Statue of Liberty, which is green with a golden torch. The statue was originally brown and did not turn green until after 1920. Furthermore, the gold flame was a 1986 addition. Costumes and accessories also contain flaws, such as the bag that Jack is seen carrying at the start of the film. It is a Swedish army model, designed in 1939. All in all, the film has enough holes to, er, sink a ship!

　　The makers of the 2001 blockbuster, Pearl Harbor, were far more concerned with creating a moving love story of epic grandeur than getting the historical facts right. A lot of the military equipment used was not invented until the 1970s and military history buffs have a field day picking flaws in the battle scenes. One shot of the Japanese fleet at sea clearly shows a nuclear-powered super-carrier, surrounded by guided missile-armed cruisers and destroyers. The Japanese navy might have been advanced for its time but it is unlikely that they had that kind of firepower in the 1940s. There are scenes where officers speak into phones that are not connected to anything and drink from modern bottles of Jack Daniel"s whiskey. In one scene, Rafe and Danny are at Mitchell Field on Long Island. There are large hills and mountains visible in the background. Any visitor to the area will know that there are no hills or mountains located anywhere in Long Island. The movie had a happy ending, so who cares about such trivial things as nuclear warships and imaginary mountains!

　　Star Wars When the stormtroopers break into the control room, watch very carefully and you will be able to see one stormtrooper nearly render himself unconscious by smacking his head off a door frame. This mistake was never rectified and became so famous with fans of the movie that it was decided to add a bump sound affect to the DVD version.
　　Gladiator After a battle, Maximus is shown walking in the army camp. He feeds a horse a piece of apple. If you look closely between Maximus and the horse, there is a crewman wearing a pair of blue jeans.
　　
　　Charlie"s Angels When the Angels are fighting the "Creepy Thin Man", right before Drew Barrymore lifts up Lucy Liu to spin her around and kick him, to get Lucy"s attention, Drew hollers out "Lucy!" even though Lucy Liu"s character"s name is Alex.
　　Pirates of the Caribbean Just as Jack says, "On deck, you scabrous dogs", to the very left edge of the screen over Jack"s shoulder is a grip crew member with a tan cowboy hat, white t-shirt and sunglasses, just standing there looking out to sea.
　　Top Gun At the end, a victorious Maverick is hoisted on the shoulders of the guys. As he goes up, he isn"t wearing sunglasses. His head goes out of the shot, and when he comes down, he"s wearing a pair.
　　Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King In the final battle scene, when Aragorn and crew are creating a diversion outside the gates of Mordor, everyone is on horseback. Later in the scene, when Aragorn and the other warriors charge the enemy, they are on foot. Even if they did dismount, where are the horses?
