输了两美元|两输户

　　常说做事要听从内心的声音,可是有时候人总难免产生“歪念”。这样一来,如何判断好坏便成了我们随心而行时必须考虑的事情――如果对了,得到的可能是一笔财富;反之,也许是一无所有。而无论结果如何,若能以“两美元”的心态对待,这份淡定也算难能可贵了。
　　
　　A man and his wife went to visit friends in another part of the country and were taken to a racecourse[赛马场].
　　Fascinated[使着迷] by the sight of horses chasing one another
　　around a track, the two of them kept betting all evening till they had no more than two dollars left.
　　The following day the man prevailed upon[劝说] his wife to let him go to the course alone. There was a horse with a fifty-to-one odds[投注赔率] on it in the first race. He bet on the horse and it won. He put all the money he won on another long shot[风险大的赌注] in the next race and again he won. He kept doing this all evening and his entire earnings came to 57,000 dollars.
　　On the way back home he passed by a gambling
　　den[窝点]. An inner voice, the same that seemed to have guided him in his choice of horses, said, “Stop here and go in.” So he stopped, went in, and found himself standing in front of a roulette[轮盘赌] wheel. The voice said, “Number 13.” The man put the entire 57,000 on number 13. The wheel spun, and the croupier[赌场主持人] announced, “Number 14.”
　　So the man walked back home with nothing in his pocket. His wife called out to him from the porch[门廊], “How did it go?”
　　The husband shrugged his shoulders. “I lost the two dollars,” he said.
　　
　　一个男人和他的妻子一起去拜访住在国家另一头的朋友。朋友带着他们来到赛马场。夫妻俩被马儿绕着跑道相互竞逐的场景深深迷住了,一整晚都在不停地下注,直到身上只剩下两美元。
　　第二天,男人说服妻子让他独自去赛马场。第一场比赛时,有一匹参赛马只的赔率是一赔五十。他把钱压在那匹马上,结果赢了。到了下一场比赛,他把所有赢来的钱都压在了另一个风险很大的赌注上,结果他又赢了。整个晚上他就这样不停地下注,总共赢了57000美元。
　　在回家的路上,他路过一个赌摊。他心里响起一个声音――跟指点他选择马匹的声音一模一样,对他说:“停下来,进去吧。”于是他停了下来,走进赌摊,发现自己站在一个轮盘前面。那个声音说:“压13号。”男人将57000美元全都压在13号上。轮子转动起来,接着主持人宣布:“14号。”
　　于是男人口袋空空地回家了。他的妻子从门廊那儿叫住他:“结果如何?”
　　这位丈夫耸了耸肩膀,说:“我把那两美元输掉了。”
