　　Maybe it simply feeds modern society’s obsession[迷住] with lists and rankings, but more than 2,000 years after ancient Greeks identified the Seven Wonders of the World, millions of people around the globe are casting[投] Internet ballots[投票] to update the list.
　　Whether motivated[激发] by nationalism[民族主义], conservation[保守], curiosity or sheer[纯粹的] boredom, more than 4 million Chinese, Indians, Mexicans, Brazilians, Americans and others have cast 28 million votes, organizers say. They have generated[产生] 21 wonder finalists, including the Great Wall of China, the Taj Mahal, the Acropolis in Athens, Jordan’s ancient city of Petra, and the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Also in the running are Britain’s Stonehenge and the statues on Easter Island in Chile.
　　The seven winners will be announced on July 7, or 07/07/07. The idea for the campaign[竞选] came from Swiss-Canadian filmmaker Bernard Weber, who, according to the group’s website, formed the nonprofit foundation[基金会] in Zurich in 2001 to “Protect humankind’s heritage[遗产] across the globe?and alert[提醒] people to “the destruction of nature and the decay[衰减] of our man-made heritage.?Organizers promise that half the proceeds[收益] will go toward efforts to protect and restore threatened sites.

　　或许这只是为了满足现代社会人们对排名的痴迷，但在古希腊人评出世界七大奇迹的两千多年后，全球数百万人纷纷在网上投票，以更新这份名单。
　　无论是出于民族主义、保守心理、好奇心还是纯粹的解闷，据组织者说，超过四百万的中国人、印度人、墨西哥人、巴西人、美国人以及其他各国的人们已经投出2800万张投票，21个奇迹入围最后的决赛名单，其中包括中国长城、印度泰姬陵、雅典卫城、约旦佩特拉古城以及埃及吉萨金字塔等。同样参与角逐的还有英国的史前巨石阵和智利的复活节岛雕像。
　　七大获胜者名单将于7月7日，即07年7月7日公布。本次评选活动的构想来自瑞士籍加拿大制片人贝尔纳・韦伯。据组织者官方网站指出，他于2001年在苏黎世成立了这一非盈利性基金会，目的是为了“保护全球人类的遗产”和提醒世人“大自然以及我们的人造文化遗产正面临破坏的现状”。组织者承诺会把半数的收益用于保护和修葺濒危遗址的工作之中。
