　　斯比德天生就是赛车的料子――他出生在一个有浓厚赛车血统的家庭，哥哥雷克斯是个前途无量的年轻车手。但一场车祸夺去了雷克斯的生命，夺去了瑞瑟一家的欢乐，也夺去了斯比德的幸福童年。长大之后，斯比德踏上哥哥的职业车手老路，甫一出道就要面对赛车世界的巨大黑幕……
　　喜欢这部电影，是因为那童话般色彩斑斓的画面里揉合了对社会现实的一点思考――成人世界的大势力和潜规则，很多情况下足以击沉绝大多数人的意志。纵有惊人天赋，纵有无限热情，只要你选择一直对自己诚实，对自己的真心诚实，对自己的梦想诚实，你就必须付出很大努力和代价才能抗争到底。生活确实不公，但与其怨天尤人，不如坚持、无畏并诚实地走下去吧，也许不远处就是通往未来的那一扇大门！

　　Royalton: Now, then, we all know the reason I’m here is because of you, Speed. I was watching last night, and I have to tell you, young man, you gave me goose bumps[鸡皮疙瘩]. I knew at once this was no mere driver I was watching. This was an artist. I imagine
　　the phone’s been ringing off the hook[听筒不在原位].
　　Spritle: Yeah. But Speed doesn’t wanna drive for you or any other sponsors[赞助商].
　　Royalton: (laughs) Is this your manager, then?
　　Mom: That’s our youngest, Spritle.
　　Royalton: Nice to meet you, youngster.
　　Spritle: We got our eye on[密切注视] you, mister.
　　Royalton: (laughs) Excellent. The first thing I want to make perfectly clear is that I have no intention
　　whatsoever of trying to get Speed away from Racer Motors. What you have here is what teams spend years and millions of dollars trying to achieve � chemistry[氛围]. I wouldn’t dare touch a thing.
　　Speed: Well, excuse me for asking, but…what do you want?
　　Royalton: To help. I want to make sure you have
　　access to[有途径得到] whatever resources you need to continue doing exactly what you’re doing.
　　Pops: No offense, Royalton, but Racer Motors has always run as an independent.

　　这里出现了一个固定的对答习语――“no offense”和“none taken”。前者我们接触得比较多，当你要针对别人的情况或与别人切身相关的事情提出自己的看法时，为了表示委婉，强调自己对事不对人，并不是存心冒犯，我们会说一句“no offense”。而在另一方面，虽然我们听见别人说“no offense”时常常随便应对一句“it’s okay”，其实标准的应答方式应该是“none taken”，表示自己一点都不介意。例如：
　　A: It seems that your company really has so many problems. No offense.（别见怪，你的公司看来真的存在很多问题。）
　　B: None taken.（不介意。）
　　另外，“strike that”这个用法来源于过去的打字机。当时，重要人物一边讲话，身边总有打字员一边打字作为记录。当说话人想修正自己刚刚的说法时，他会告诉打字员“strike that”，就是把刚才的话勾除删掉的意思。
　　注：经常简称为“C64”，1982年推出的家用计算机，是电脑家用化的重要里程碑。
　　
　　从罗伊尔顿那里得知每次大奖赛的背后都有肮脏的商业交易，斯比德不愿意沦为大公司的挣钱工具，拒绝加入罗伊尔顿的车队。在此之后，他不但比赛无法获胜，还被媒体刻意抹黑，连自家生意都面临绝境……
　　
　　Mom: (knocks on the door) Speed? Are you all right?
　　Speed: I don’t know.
　　Mom: It’s gonna be okay. We’ll work this out.
　　Speed: I don’t know, Mom. I may have really messed things up.
　　Mom: How?
　　Speed: By not joining Royalton.
　　Mom: Oh, don’t be silly. You never would have been happy racing for that terrible man.
　　Speed: Maybe that’s not the point. Maybe Royalton’s right, and racing’s all about business and anyone who doesn’t understand that is just a chump[傻瓜].
　　Mom: Now you listen to me, young man. What you do behind the wheel of a race car has nothing to do with business. Well, before you could even talk, you were making noises that sounded like an engine. We tried to take you to the park and you never wanted to get out of the car.
　　Speed: I loved that old wagon[（俚）小车].
　　Mom: And you remember when Rex took you out to Thunderhead and let you drive?
　　Speed: And I turned it over.
　　Mom: I thought your father would have a heart attack when you came out with that crazy smile. Speed, when I watch you do some of the things you do, I feel like I’m
　　watching someone paint or…or make music. I go to the races to watch you make art. And it’s beautiful and inspiring[鼓舞人的] and everything that art should be, even though there are times when I have to close my eyes. But then there are other times, like you just take my breath away. And it’s at those moments when I feel your father’s chest swell[使膨胀] and I know that he’s smiling, because he’s
　　pretending that he doesn’t have tears in his eyes. Then I just go to pieces.
　　Speed: Why?
　　Mom: Because I am so impossibly proud to be your mom. It’s gonna be okay, honey. You’ll see. We’ll work this out. We just have to stick together, and something good will happen. You’ll see.

　　Racer X: Because you’re a fighter and a friend.
　　Speed: (sneers) Why don’t you just tell me the truth? You’re Rex, aren’t you?
　　Racer X: You mean your brother?
　　Speed: You first appeared two years after Rex died. You drive just like him. You knew I’d be here
　　because this is where he always used to take me. Just tell me the truth. (Racer X removes his mask.) You’re not Rex…
　　Racer X: No, Speed. I’m sorry, but your brother is dead.
　　Speed: I’m sorry.
　　Racer X: Don’t be. I’m sure if he was here, he’d be immensely[非常] proud of you.
　　Speed: For what? Making the same mistakes he did?
　　Racer X: For trying to make a difference. From what
　　I’ve read, that’s all he tried to do.
　　Speed: And what good did it do? He got killed for nothing. Racing hasn’t changed and it never will.
　　Racer X: It doesn’t matter if racing never changes. What matters is if we let racing change us. Everyone of us has to find a reason to do this. You don’t climb into a T-180 to be a driver. You do it because you’re driven.
　　Speed: If you know so much, why don’t you tell me why I should keep driving?
　　Racer X: Sorry. That’s for you to figure out. I just hope when you do, then I’m there to see it.
　　(Speed makes up his mind to leave home.)
　　Pops: Speed. Before you go, I’d like to say a few things. Will you sit with your old man for a minute?
　　Speed: Don’t try to stop me.
　　Pops: I won’t. The truth was I couldn’t have been more proud of you, son. Not because you won, but because you stood up, you weren’t afraid, and you did what you thought was right.
　　Speed: It didn’t amount to anything. It was completely meaningless.
　　Pops: How could it be meaningless? I saw my son become a man. I watched him act with courage and integrity[诚实], and drive the pants off every other driver on that road. This is not meaningless; this is a reason for a father’s life. I admit I went to Cortega because I was afraid that what happened to Rex was gonna happen to you, and I just couldn’t take that.
