    得陇望蜀打一生肖 [得陇望蜀]

    　　"Long" and "Shu" are both names of ancient places. ( "Long", present-day the east of Gansu Province; "Shu", present-day the mid-west of Sichuan Province)
    　　According to History of Later Han ・ The Life of Cen Peng recorded, in the former years of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Kui Xiao occupied the place of Longxi and Gongsun Shu occupied the place of Shu, each dominating a region.
    　　After Emperor Guangwu--Liu Xiu controlled the east area and then advancing to the west, he offered Cen Peng as a chief general, with his assistant general, Wu Han to beset Kui Xiao in the Longxi. When Gongsun Shu heard it, he sent troops to help Kui at once.
    　　At that time Gongsun Shu"s troops were at Shang Gui. Liu Xiu sent troops to pin down there and wrote a letter to Cen Peng: "If the two cities were taken, you should lead the troops to attack Shu. A man"s desire is very hard to satisfy, so after capturing Long, I would wish to take Shu."
    　　Before long Kui Xiao and Gongsun Shu were wiped up and Liu Xiu realized his intention of reunifying the country.
    　　From this historical story comes the idiom:" De Long Wang Shu"--covet Shu after getting Long.
    　　Now we use it as a metaphor to indicate that people are insatiably greedy and the more they get, the more they want to have.
    　　
    　　陇,古地名,今甘肃省东部。蜀,古地名,今四川省中西部。
    　　据《后汉书・岑彭传》记载,在东汉初年,隗嚣占领陇西,公孙述占据蜀地,两人各霸一方。
    　　光武帝刘秀控制了东部地区之后,转向西进军,封岑彭为大将军,与其偏将吴汉把隗嚣围在西城。公孙述听说隗嚣被围后派人去援救。
    　　当时公孙述驻军在上邦,刘秀派人包围了上邦,并给岑彭写了一封信说:“两城若下,便可带兵南击蜀虏。人若不知足,既平陇,复望蜀。”意思是,平定了陇地西城,上邦两城后,再把蜀地也收复了。
    　　不久,隗嚣和公孙述被消灭,刘秀实现了统一全国的目的。
    　　后用此典“得陇望蜀”比喻某些人得寸进尺,贪心不足。
