　　1. A monkey lives in a big tree on the river bank. He has many friends. Among them is the tortoise. He is friendly to his friends. 有一只猴子住在河边的一棵大树上。他有许多朋友，其中乌龟也是他的朋友之一，他对朋友们很友好。
　　
　　2. One day，the tortoise’s wife said to him，“I am very ill. Only when I have the heart of a monkey can I be well again. Can you get me a monkey’s heart?” The tortoise agreed. 一天，乌龟的妻子对乌龟说：“我得了重病，只有吃了猴心才能康复，你能帮我找到猴心吗?”乌龟答应了。
　　
　　3. Thinking it over，the tortoise found his friend and said，“Brother monkey，there is a tree on the other side of the river. The tree bears big and sweet peaches. Let me carry you there on my back to eat them.” 乌龟想了想，便来找他的朋友，说：“猴老弟，河那边有棵树，树上长满了又大又甜的桃子，我背你过去吃吧。”
　　
　　4. The monkey was glad. He jumped on the tortoise’s back without thinking. When they swam to the middle of the river，the tortoise began to sink into the water. The monkey was frightened. 猴子很高兴。他想也没想，就跳到了乌龟的背上，到了河中央，乌龟开始向水底下沉，猴子吓坏了。
　　
　　5. “Don’t keep sinking，I can’t swim.” The tortoise said，“I do want to put you to death，so I’ll have your heart to cure my wife’s illness.” “别往下沉了，我不会游水。”乌龟说：“我就是想淹死你，这样我就可以用你的心给我妻子治病了。”
　　
　　6. A good idea came to him quickly. “Big brother tortoise，why didn’t you say so earlier? I forgot to bring my heart with me when I left home.” 聪明的猴子立刻想出一个好主意。他说，“乌龟大哥，你怎么不早说，我出门时忘记带上心了。”
　　
　　7. “Where did you place your heart?” the tortoise asked in surprise. “I put it in the tree where I live. If you carry me back to the bank，I’ll give it to you at once.” “你把心放在哪儿了?”乌龟吃惊地问道。“放在我住的那棵树上了，如果你带我回到岸上，我马上把心取给你。”
　　
　　8. The tortoise thought of his words as true，so he took the monkey back to the bank. The monkey led the tortoise into a trap dug by the hunters. He that wants to hurt others hurts himself. 乌龟信以为真，便把猴子又驮回岸上。猴子把乌龟引到猎人挖的陷阱里。害人者害己。
