　　730000 兰州大学外国语学院冯转　　[摘要]本文旨在研究如何对2008年出现的一些汉语新词进行翻译。由于篇幅所限，作者从《中国语言生活状况报告：2008》中找出了部分新词，这些新词从奥运到地震到网络再到科技等各个方面，涵盖面广且具有典型性，然后作者对其进行了分析和翻译，最后总结出汉语新词进行英译的方法及策略。结果发现这些新词本身高度概括，这就给英语翻译带来了一定的问题：不能太复杂，否则与原词在风格和形式等方面不符；亦不能太简单，因为过于简单，原来词义很难完全表达出来。鉴于此问题，作者主要提出了翻译与加注的方法及直译、意译，意译加附加信息等几种常见的翻译方法，这些方法对汉语新词的翻译具有一定借鉴意义。

　　一、简介
　　随着社会的发展和进步，我国的政治、经济和文化生活等方面都发生了翻天覆地的变化，新事物、新观念如雨后春笋般不断涌现。在语言领域，反映这些变化的有中国特色的大量新词语应运而生。然而，它们往往缺乏直接对应的英文词汇，其英译是对外宣传的一大难点。因此，如何将这些新词语译成准确、地道的英语，为英语国家的读者所接受，便是摆在每一位翻译工作者面前的重要任务。
　　二、部分2008年汉语新词的翻译
　　①Olympics 0f 2008–related:
　　水立方The Water Cube
　　鸟巢The Bird"s Nest
　　口罩门Mask Scandal
　　②Earthquake–related:
　　猪坚强The Brave Pig
　　纸教室Paper-tube-made Classrooms
　　③Problem milk–related:
　　问题奶粉 Problem Milk ( refers to the kind of milk containing melamine)
　　结石宝宝 Stone Babies ( babies who are suffering from kidney stones because of having drunk milk containing melamine)
　　④Internet or fashions:
　　雷语 Startling Words
　　八宝饭 Babao’s Fans
　　裸官 Naked-officials
　　⑤Policies of the government:
　　限塑令Bills forbidding the Use of Plastic Bags
　　三生教育 The Three-Skill Education
　　⑥Science:
　　免提伞 Hand-Free Umbrellas
　　传话桌Information-transmitting Desk
　　香蕉裤 Banana Trousers ( refers to a kind of trousers style, people would look thinner and longer when dressing it)
　　三、翻译方法及技巧
　　众所周知，在两种语言的翻译过程中，译者根据需要都会运用一些翻译的方法及技巧。在本篇论文中，笔者在翻译过程中，根据具体需要主要提出了翻译与加注的方法，即先对新词进行简短翻译，若信息欠缺，然后对其背景和意思进行注释，如直译、直译加注释、意译，意译加附加信息等几种常见的翻译方法。以下举例来说明翻译与加注的方法在本文中的应用：
　　口罩门Mask Scandal (refers to this event: the American bicycle representatives are wearing masks when arriving in Beijing for fear of the air pollution in Beijing): “门” is usually rendered into “scandal” in English since the Watergate Scandal-the well known scandal is translated into “水门”. “口罩” is masks. So we get the final result“mask scandal”.
　　三生教育 The Three-Skill Education ( as part of moral education, it refers to the education of three skills: life, survival and living): the full name of “三生” is “生命”,“生存” and “生活” , which are three skills and in English are life, survival, and living. But we cannot directly translate “三生教育” into the three “sheng” education for it is not comprehensible neither can we put it into life, survival , and living education for it’s too long. So we can translate it into the three skill education.
