　　Five people in New York have filed a lawsuit against the city government to stop random bag searches in the city"s subway. This report is from Stuart Cohen:

　　一个五人小组已加入到由纽约民权自由联盟提出的诉讼中。他们指出，政府的举措不但侵犯了个人隐私权，而且警方工作效率低，因为任何人都可以拒绝被搜查，然后转身走进纽约市其它467个地铁站中的任何一个。
　　布兰登・麦克维德是涉及这场诉讼的5个人里的其中一位。四年前世贸中心遭飞机袭击时，他在其中一幢大楼里。

　　“我想这样的说法是合理的，和所有政客或者执法人员一样，我也很想逮捕到真正的恐怖分子。然而这种未经怀疑就随便搜查的政策是行不通的，这就是我为何加入到这场诉讼中去的原因。”
　　制定随机搜查的政策旨在避免任何种族歧视的指控，同时尽可能禁止携带炸弹的嫌疑者进入纽约地铁。一位纽约市代表律师表示，搜查令符合所有法律要求。然而纽约民权自由联盟称这一执法措施无异于“大海捞针”，是行不通的。

　　The group of five people have been joined in their lawsuit[诉讼] by the New York Civil Liberties Union. They say, in addition to being a violation[违反] of privacy, the policy is ineffective[工作效率低], because anybody can refuse the search and then turn around and get into the system at any one of New York’s 467 other subway stations.
　　Brendan MacWade is one of the five people involved[涉及] in the lawsuit. He was in one of the World Trade Centre buildings when it was hit by a plane nearly four years ago:
　　(Brandan MacWade):
　　“I think it’s fair to say that I want to catch real terrorists[恐怖分子] as much as any politician or law enforcement[执行] official. But this policy of random[随意的] searches without suspicion[怀疑] does not work, and that is why I’ve joined this lawsuit.”
　　The random search policy[政策] was created to avoid any charges of racial[种族的] profiling while trying to keep potential[潜在的] bombers out of New York’s subway system. A lawyer for the city says the searches meet all legal[法律的] requirements. But the New York Civil Liberties Union calls it a needle in a haystack[大海捞针] approach[方法] to law enforcement that just doesn’t work.
