You want to be on the beach of Waikiki; you want to bask[晒太阳] in the warm sunshine; you want to feel the sand on your bare feet; you want to swim in the sparkling[闪烁的] Pacific; you want to look up and see Diamond Head; you want to see a spectacular tropical[热带的] sunset. Sounds good to me too. So how do you do that? You head for Hawaii and the island of Oahu. That’s where the city of Honolulu is and Honolulu is where you’ll find Waikiki. And once you’re in Waikiki, you become aware that there’s quite a lot more to see all around Oahu. You gaze[凝视] up at the clouds nestling[偎依] in the rugged[崎岖的] Koolau Mountains. You notice Koolau looks rainy up there. It’s almost always sunny at the beach ?that’s typical Oahu weather. And you’ve got a lot more beaches to explore, like Ala Moana, Ewa, Makaha, Waimea Bay, Sunset, Pipeline, Turtle Bay, Waimanalo, Lanikai, Makapuu, Kailua, Kahala ?all around the island lies the beach. Hey, that’s one of the pleasant things about being on Oahu. Even if you get lost, just go straight, sooner or later you’re at the beach. But that’s not all, the whole island’s beautiful. Want a bird’s-eye-view[鸟瞰图] of Oahu? Take off from the water, see it from a seaplane[水上飞机]. Or how about from a glider[滑翔机]? Now, that’s an amazing ride.
Although the view from an outrigger[舷外支架] canoe[独木舟] is pretty spectacular as well. Now you’re probably hungry. You need grinds; that’s island style for tasty local plate lunches. On an island with over a million people, you’ve got over a thousand restaurants to choose from. And you say you came here to do a little shopping? Well, if you are on Oahu, you can do a lot of shopping.
What about the history? When you get home, challenge your friends to name the only city in America with a royal palace. That’s right ?Honolulu! Iolani Palace is downtown on King Street, built in 1882 by the King, David Kalakaua, when Hawaii was an independent, sovereign[君主的] nation.
And of course Pearl Harbor. Once you visit the USS Arizona Memorial, you’ll understand why the 1102 men who gave their lives on that ship, Sunday, December 7th, 1941, are still said to be on active duty on board.
Is there anything you can’t do in Oahu? Well, you can’t freeze in the winter but you can see great live shows. You’ll find restaurants. Go surfing[冲浪], go swimming, go kayaking[划皮艇], play golf, tennis, do some cliff diving, visit museums, aquariums[水族馆], take a submarine[水下的] ride, snorkel, get a tan[晒黑] in the winter, be amazed by some of the most beautiful scenery and wonderful people on earth, be filled with the heavenly scent of the flower leis[花环], the fluid[流畅的] beauty of hula, the inviting[动人的] warmth of the aloha spirit ?and all because you wanted to be on the beach of Waikiki. No problem! Just head for Hawaii and the island of Oahu.

当然还有珍珠港。要是你到亚利桑那战舰纪念馆参观，你就会明白为什么时至今日，那1102名烈士在1941年12月7日（星期天）把生命献给了那艘战船后，仍被认为是在船上服现役。
