　　A fox went to a forest and unfortunately fell into a deep well. He was there just like a prisoner, with no means of escape.
　　 At this time a thirsty goat happened to come to the same well. The goat saw the fox and asked him if the water in the well was good. The fox did not want to tell the truth and praised the well water instead.
　　 "Oh! The water here is just excellent beyond words. Please jump down and enjoy it with me here. Jump! Jump !"
　　 The goat was so thirsty that he almost forgot everything. The goat jumped into the well and when the goat had enough of water, the fox told the goat that both of them were in a difficult position. The fox suggested a plan for their common escape.
　　 "If," the fox said to the goat, "you place your forefeet upon the wall, and bend your head, I will run up your back and escape, and then I will help you out afterwards."
　　 The goat readily agreed, "A good idea!"
　　 The fox leaped upon the goat"s back, and with the help of his horns, safely reached the mouth of the well, and was ready to leave the well.
　　 The goat upbraided him with the breach of his bargain. Then the fox turned around and cried out, "You foolish old fellow! If you had as many brains in your head as you have hairs in your beard, you would never have gone down before you had inspected the way up, nor haveexposed yourself to dangers from which you had no means of escape."

　　一只狐狸正朝着森林走去，不幸掉进一口深井里。他像囚犯一样困在那里，无法逃生。
　　这时，一只口渴的山羊碰巧来到这口井边喝水。见狐狸在里面，山羊便问他井里的水好不好喝。狐狸不想说出其落难实情，反而对井水大加赞美。
　　“啊!这里的水好得简直没法形容，快跳下来和我一起享用吧。跳吧!跳吧!”
　　山羊口干舌燥，几乎忘记了一切，一下子跳了下去。等山羊喝够了水，狐狸才告诉他，他们已身陷困境。接着，狐狸提出了一个共同逃生的办法。
　　“如果，”狐狸对山羊说道，“你把前脚放在井壁上，再把头低下去，那么我就能踩着你的背往上冲，先逃出去。然后，我再帮助你逃出去。”
　　山羊欣然同意，说：“好主意!”。
　　狐狸跳到山羊的背上，借助他的双角，安全地蹬上了井口，立刻就要离去。
　　这时，山羊骂了起来，指责狐狸背信弃义。狐狸转过身大声说道：“你这个老傻瓜!如果你脑子里的智慧和你的胡子一样多的话，你是绝对不会不看退路就跳下井的，也就不会陷入这种无法逃生的危险之中的。”
　　请记住：三思而后行啊!
