　　It was an unseasonably hot day. Everybody, it seemed, was looking for some kind of relief, so an ice－cream shop was a natural best place to stop.
　　 A little girl, clutching her money tightly, entered the store. Before she could say a word, the shop clerk sharply shouted, "Get outside quickly and read the sign on the door, and stay out until you put on some shoes." She left slowly, and a big man followed her out of the store.
　　 He watched as she stood in front of the store and read the sign, "No Bare Feet". Tears started rolling down her cheeks as she turned and started to walk away. Just then the big man called to her. Sitting down on the curb, he took off his size-12 shoes, and set them in front of the girl, saying,"Here, you won"t be able to walk in these, but if you sort of slide along, you can get your ice-cream cone."
　　 Then he lifted she little girl up and set her feet into his big shoes. "Take your time," he said, "I get tired of moving them around, and it"ll feel good to just sit here and eat my ice-cream." The little girl thanked him with tears in her eyes. Then she shuffled up to the counter and ordered her ice-cream cone.
　　 The man smiled and walked away with bare feet. He was a big man, big belly, but most of all, he had a warm heart.
　　
　　那天天气热得有些反常，似乎人人都在寻找某种解暑的办法，当然，冰淇淋店就成了最佳的去处。
　　一个小女孩，紧紧攥着手里的钱，走进一家冰淇淋店。还没等小女孩开口，一个店员就对她大吼道：“快滚出去，看看门上贴的警示牌，穿上鞋再进来。”小女孩慢慢地走出冰淇淋店，一个身材高大的男人也跟着她走了出来。
　　小女孩站在门前看着警示牌，上面写着：“赤脚者禁止入内”。泪水从她的脸颊上滚落下来，她转过身正打算离开。那个男人把这一切都看在眼里。就在小女孩打算离开时，他连忙叫住了她。他坐到路边，脱下自己土12码的大鞋，把鞋放在小女孩的面前，说：“穿上吧，你穿这鞋肯定没法走路，但是，如果你慢慢拖着走，至少可以买到好吃的蛋卷冰淇淋。”
　　说着，他把小女孩抱起来，让她的两只小脚穿上这双大鞋。“不着急，慢慢来。”他对小女孩说道，“整天穿着这鞋走来走去，我觉得很烦。坐在这儿吃冰淇淋的感觉应该很不错的!”小女孩含着泪，谢过那位男子后，就拖着这双大鞋来到柜台前，买了向往已久的蛋卷冰淇淋。
　　那男子欣慰地笑了，然后赤着脚离开了。他身材魁梧，大腹便便，但最为重要的是他有一颗善良的心。
